Cover Image Barnett Newman: A Catalogue Raisonné was published in 2004 by The Barnett Newman Foundation and Yale University Press.

It was compiled by Heidi Colsman-Freyberger, who now serves as Executive Director of The Barnett Newman Foundation, and includes essays by Richard Shiff, who holds the Effie Marie Cain Regents Chair in Art at the University of Texas at Austin, and Carol Mancusi-Ungaro, the Melva Bucksbaum Associate Director for Conservation and Research at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Art Libraries Society of North America awarded it the George Wittenborn Memorial Book Award 2005.

The catalogue presents Newman’s entire oeuvre: paintings, drawings, sculptures, graphics, an architectural model, and ephemera in one definite volume. The book also includes an exhibition history, a bibliography, and an inventory of Newman’s personal library. The last has been updated since the publication of the catalogue raisonné and is available in its complete form on this website and onsite at the Foundation.

Within each catalogue entry, exhibitions and literature are referred to by short titles. A key to those titles is included in the book; it is also available to search and download below in order to facilitate side-by-side reading of a catalogue entry in the book and its citations in full.
